The Accounting program prepares students for careers in public, private, and cost accounting. It also provides the foundation for students who are interested in transferring to a four-year university and completing their bachelor’s degree.
Students learn to perform accounting functions, record and verify transactions, prepare payrolls, monitor inventory, prepare financial statements, and analyze financial information. Emphasis is placed on both manual and computer accounting programs with the student learning accounting packages along with word processing and spreadsheet software.
The demand for accounting personnel continues to increase. Graduates are employed as bookkeepers, auditors, tax preparers, compilers of financial information, cost accountants, and financial analysts.
Students in this program will be able to:
- Analyze a basic business issue and recommend a solution through oral/written communication using knowledge gained in the Business curriculum.
- Use written and oral communications to effectively show application of business principles from a variety of curriculum subjects (Market Analysis, Finance, Marketing, Human Resources, and Management).
- Analyze an advanced business issue and recommend a solution through oral/written communication using knowledge gained in the Business curriculum.
- Develop a business plan demonstrating knowledge of principles in Market Analysis, Finance, Marketing, Human Resources, and Management.
- Analyze their preparation for transfer to a four-year college, for advancement in their current position, or to directly enter the workforce.
