POLICY
Definitions:
- In-Service (Mandatory) - Trainings or presentations that Administration has deemed crucial for all faculty to attend. These times are a required part of every full-time faculty member’s job, and are therefore mandatory. This includes training from Human Resources on compliance topics, both live and through videos, and may also include requirements such as Assessment Day wherein faculty receive training about assessment or are required to work together to identify assessment issues or to make curriculum changes.
- Professional Development - Trainings or presentations that take place on or off-campus that provide material that some or all faculty members may find useful. These are optional, since they may not be equally useful to all faculty members. On-campus examples may include presentations or training on using SafeAssign or pedagogy related presentations.
POLICY GUIDELINES
Required Annual Hours for Each Category per Academic Year:
In-Service: Will not exceed 12 hours, to be completed in not more than three business days, which are labeled as “Employee Development/In-service” on the Academic Calendar.
Full-time Faculty Requirements:
Professional Development (On-Campus or Off-Campus): 8 hours Total required In-Service and Professional Development: 20 hours
Adjunct Faculty Requirements:
Professional Development (On-Campus or Off-Campus): 3 hours
Because not all faculty members or departments can afford to travel to conferences off campus, Zane State College will provide at least 8 hours of on-campus professional development opportunities every academic year. All efforts will be made to provide alternative ways of participating for faculty members who have scheduling conflicts (Blackboard materials, recorded trainings, extra workshops, etc.).
It is up to each faculty member to attain the required number of professional development hours as per the faculty evaluation document.
