3357:12-16-78-Employee Evaluation Policy


PURPOSE/CHARTER

Zane State College is committed to ensuring that students receive high-quality instruction and services and that all areas of the institution are managed with efficiency, professionalism, and integrity. This policy establishes expectations for the regular evaluation of all full-time employees, as well as procedures for maintaining performance standards and supporting employee development.

POLICY

In accordance with Ohio Administrative Code 3358:17-20-07, the College will conduct performance evaluations to:

  • Maintain high levels of individual and organizational performance
  • Identify opportunities for professional growth and development
  • Provide constructive feedback for continuous improvement
  • Support personnel decision-making processes (e.g., retention, promotion, professional development)

All evaluations must be documented, reviewed with the employee, and filed with the Human Resources office.

SCOPE/POLICY GUIDELINES

This policy applies to all full-time faculty, full-time staff, and administrators at Zane State College, excluding the President. It also outlines evaluation expectations for part-time employees based on role and scheduling.

Administrative and Support Staff:

  • All administrative, support, and regularly scheduled part-time employees will be evaluated annually.
  • Evaluations are conducted by the employee’s immediate supervisor.
  • The President is evaluated by the Board of Trustees.

 

  • Once completed and signed by both the supervisor and the employee, evaluations are submitted to Human Resources for inclusion in the personnel file.

Instructional Faculty:

  • All full-time instructional faculty will be evaluated annually.
  • Part-time instructional faculty will be evaluated according to their rank and/or as needs arise.
  • Evaluations are conducted by the appropriate dean or designee.
  • Student Observation of Instruction Surveys contribute to the instructional evaluation process.
  • All evaluation forms must be signed by both parties and submitted to Human Resources for filing. Forms are available on the college intranet and in the HR office.

Appeals Process:

  • Any employee may appeal their evaluation through the Office of Human Resources in accordance with the Evaluation Appeals Procedure.

NON-COMPLIANCE

Failure to comply with evaluation procedures may result in administrative follow-up, impact eligibility for advancement or merit-based opportunities, and be addressed through appropriate personnel policies. Evaluations not submitted or performed may be considered a violation of supervisory responsibilities. Sanctions for misconduct or violations of this policy may include, but are not limited to, one or more of the following:

  1. Oral and/or written warning.
  2. Probation, suspension, or termination of employment.
  3. Legal action according to applicable laws and contractual agreements.

 

POLICY APPROVAL

I have read and understand the Zane State College Employee Evaluation Policy and Guidelines. I understand that if I violate the rules explained herein, I may face legal or disciplinary action according to applicable laws or company policy.
