3357:12-16-56-Faculty Workload Policy


PURPOSE/CHARTER

The purpose of this policy is to ensure equity, transparency, and compliance with Ohio Revised Code Section 3345.45, as amended by Senate Bill 1 (2025), in defining and managing faculty workload expectations. This policy aligns institutional practices with federal and state regulations and ensures that faculty are supported in achieving excellence in instruction, service, and scholarly engagement.

POLICY

A full-time faculty workload is defined as 15 credit hours per semester, in alignment with federal definitions under 34 C.F.R. 600.2. Workload includes a combination of teaching, preparation, service, and professional activities, expressed through credit hour equivalents (CHEs).

Administrative Reassignments:

 

Faculty assigned administrative responsibilities (e.g., program directors) will receive workload adjustments expressed in CHEs to account for time dedicated to administrative duties.

 

Tenure Pathways:

 

Zane State College does not offer tenure to its faculty.

 

SCOPE/POLICY GUIDELINES

This policy applies to all full-time instructional faculty at Zane State College. Part-time faculty are assigned workloads based on credit hours taught and are not governed by the full CHE model. Administrative roles affecting faculty load must follow this policy to ensure fair, consistent application across divisions.

NON-COMPLIANCE

Failure to adhere to this policy may result in the following corrective actions, depending on the severity and nature of non-compliance:

  1. Oral and/or written warning
  2. Reassignment of duties
  3. Probation, suspension, or termination of employment
  4. Legal action in accordance with applicable laws and contractual agreements
