3357:12-16-54-Class Coverage During Instructor Absence

The primary function of Zane State College is the education of students. To facilitate learning, all classes and laboratory sessions should meet as scheduled. In cases where an instructor absence is known prior to the scheduled class meeting time, the instructor is

responsible for notifying the appropriate division dean and providing materials, lessons, or other necessary information to an alternate instructor or via a distance learning platform to ensure that the class(es) will receive instruction as scheduled. In cases where an instructor absence is unknown prior to the scheduled class meeting time, due to an emergency, the instructor must notify the appropriate division dean or direct supervisor as soon as they are able. Every effort should be made to notify students of class cancellation(s) if an alternate instructor is unavailable.

POLICY GUIDELINES

In the event that an absence exceeds one calendar week, a substitute instructor may be necessary and will be arranged by the division dean with the approval of the Chief Academic Officer. If a colleague is called upon to deliver the course, as a substitute instructor, coverage of the class(es) by a full-time faculty member may require overload assignment and will be calculated at the overload rate.

Any instructor absence due to illness or injury must be reported on the “Zane State College Employee Leave Usage Form” (Form#15) immediately upon return to duty.
