3357:12-16-30-Zane State College Employee Tuition Fee Waiver Policy

A.POLICY

The Zane State College Board of Trustees adopted the following policy for a fee waiver program for employees, spouses, and natural, adopted, and custodial children (referred to as “dependents”) of full-time employees.

Zane State College encourages employees to become avid learners and to continually develop their knowledge, skills, and abilities. To that end, the College provides both this Tuition Fee Waiver Policy and a separate Tuition Reimbursement program.

B.POLICY GUIDELINES

The Tuition Fee Waiver Policy applies to tuition and general fees only for credit courses; textbook expenses and other fees are the responsibility of the student. Enrollment is on a “space-available basis”, where there is less than the maximum number of regular students in a class. The fee waiver may not be used for community education classes. Students cannot utilize this benefit if they are on academic probation or academic dismissal.

  1. Full-time Employees

The College will waive 100 percent of the tuition and general fees of degree-credit classes taken from Zane State College for up to eight (8) credit hours per academic semester. Employees are expected to attend the course during their non-working hours. The College recognizes, however, the desirability of planned individual development, which may necessitate taking a course which meets during the employee’s regularly scheduled working hours. When this occurs, the employee’s working hours may be adjusted in coordination with the College’s professional development policy for employees and the supervisor’s approval (See policy 800.02).

  1. Part-time Annual Employees

Part-time annual employees working an average of 20 hours per week are eligible for waiver of tuition and general fee for one (1) semester course.

Adjunct Faculty

Adjunct faculty teaching a regular semester course are eligible for waiver of tuition and general fee for one (1) semester course the following semester. Credit for enrollment under this policy can be accrued or “banked” for up to three semesters following their instructional assignment. Credit hours taken under this benefit cannot exceed the number of credit hours taught for the academic year. This benefit, if not used by the adjunct faculty, can be used by eligible dependents of the adjunct faculty member.

  1. Spouse and/or Dependents of Full-time Employees of the College

The spouse and dependents of full-time employees of the College are eligible for waiver of tuition and general fee for credit courses of Zane State College up to full- time student status. Natural, adopted, and custodial children of full-time employees may utilize the employee fee waiver until the age of 25.

  1. Students who fail courses or continue to withdraw after refund period may become ineligible for continuation of this benefit. These students may appeal to the College to determine if benefit could be reinstated.

Procedures

The College will establish procedures to administer this policy in accordance with Internal Revenue Code Section 117(d) and all provisions thereunder. Forms to request use of the tuition fee waiver may be obtained on My ZSC.
