3357:12-14-71-Student Examination Policy

A.POLICY

This policy establishes the guidelines and expectations for the administration of student examinations at Zane State College. The policy applies to all forms of exams, including midterms, finals, quizzes, and other assessments, to ensure fairness, consistency, and academic integrity.

B.POLICY GUIDELINES

  1. Policy Statement Examinations are an essential component of assessing student learning and academic performance. Zane State College is committed to administering exams in a manner that maintains academic standards, ensures equitable treatment for all students, and upholds academic integrity.
  2. Examination Guidelines
    • Scheduling of Examinations
      • Final Exams: Final examinations are scheduled during the designated final exam period at the end of each term.
      • Midterms and Quizzes: Faculty members are responsible for scheduling midterm exams and quizzes within the regular academic calendar. Faculty must provide students with reasonable notice (at least one week) before administering a midterm or major exam.
      • Online Courses: Examinations in online courses must follow similar scheduling guidelines, and students must be given adequate time to complete the exam.
    • Attendance and Punctuality
      • Students are expected to attend all scheduled exams at the assigned time and location. Failure to appear for an exam may result in a grade of zero for that exam unless prior arrangements have been made.
      • Students arriving late to an examination may be permitted to sit for the exam at the discretion of the instructor but will not be given extra time to complete it.
    • Make-up Exams
      • Make-up exams will only be permitted for valid reasons such as illness, emergency, or pre-approved conflicts. In such cases, students must notify the instructor as soon as possible and provide appropriate documentation (e.g., doctor’s note).
      • The instructor will arrange a make-up exam at a mutually convenient time, and the format of the make-up exam may differ from the original.
    • Examination Accommodations

  • Students requiring special accommodations for exams (e.g., extended time, alternate formats) must coordinate with the Office of Accessibility Services. Requests for accommodations should be submitted as early as possible in the semester.
  • Faculty members will receive official notification of approved accommodations and are responsible for implementing them.
