3357:12-14-54-Policy on Semester Class Schedule Changes


A.POLICY

This policy establishes guidelines for schedule changes to Zane State College’s semester courses, workshops, and workforce development opportunities. It outlines the circumstances under which courses may be canceled or rescheduled and provides information on student notification procedures.

 

B.POLICY GUIDELINES

 

  1. Authority to Cancel or Reschedule Courses
    • Zane State College reserves the right to cancel or reschedule semester courses, workshops, or workforce development opportunities.
    • The decision to cancel or reschedule is at the discretion of the College and is typically based on factors such as enrollment levels, faculty availability, and facility constraints.
    • The obligation to conduct a course will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
  2. Timing of Course Cancellations
    • Decisions to cancel a course may be made as late as the first-class meeting.
    • Every effort will be made to notify students as soon as possible if a course is canceled or rescheduled.
  3. Student Notification
    • Students enrolled in canceled courses will be notified via:
      • Email notification to their Zane State College student email account.
      • Text or phone call when appropriate or if email notification is not effective.
  4. Impact on Student Records and Enrollment
    • Students affected by a schedule change will be given options for:
      • Re-enrollment in an alternative course.
      • Full tuition refund if no suitable alternative course is available.
    • The Registrar’s Office will assist students in updating their registration records if a course cancellation affects their schedule.
  5. Special Cases and Exceptions
    • Special cases, such as emergency campus closures or extenuating circumstances, may result in course schedule changes beyond the standard cancellation process.
    • In such cases, Zane State College will follow its Emergency Closure Policy for guidance on how to manage course cancellations and student communications.
