3357:12-14-26-Reinstatement After Drop For Non-Attendance Procedure

A.POLICY
This policy establishes procedures for students seeking re-enrollment into courses after being dropped for non-attendance during the third week or later in the semester or term. The policy outlines the required approvals and conditions under which students may be reinstated into their courses.
B.PROCEDURE GUIDELINES
- Reinstatement During the 3rd Week of the Semester/Term
- If a student is dropped from a course for non-attendance during the third week of the semester or term, the student may request reinstatement.
- The student must obtain permission from the course instructor to be added back into the course.
- Student Responsibility:
- The student is responsible for contacting the instructor directly to request reinstatement.
- The student may be required to provide documentation or an explanation as requested by the instructor.
- Reinstatement After the 4th Week of the Semester/Term
- After the fourth week of the semester or term, the process for reinstatement becomes more stringent.
- The student must obtain permission from both the course instructor and the academic dean.
- Student Responsibility:
- The student must initiate contact with both the instructor and the academic dean to request approval for reinstatement.
- The student may be required to provide documentation supporting their request.
- The instructor and academic dean will determine if the student can reasonably make up missed work and continue in the course successfully.
- Implementation and Considerations
- Instructor and Dean Review: Faculty and academic deans are encouraged to consider the following when reviewing a student’s request for reinstatement:
- Student circumstances leading to the drop.
- Student’s academic performance up to the point of non- attendance.
- Feasibility of the student making up missed coursework in a timely manner.
- Academic Standards: This policy is designed to maintain academic integrity and ensure that students who reenter courses are provided with the support and conditions necessary for their success.
