|
|
A.POLICY:
The Academic Milestone Policy at Zane State College is designed to support student progression and success by identifying and recognizing key points in their academic journey. Academic milestones are predefined accomplishments or events that indicate satisfactory academic progress toward degree completion. These milestones ensure that students remain on track, enabling timely intervention when necessary to provide support and guidance.
B.POLICY GUIDELINES:
- Definition of Academic Milestones:
- Academic milestones are checkpoints in a student’s academic journey, such as the completion of foundational courses, the declaration of a major, or the attainment of a specific GPA. These milestones serve as indicators of a student’s readiness for advanced coursework and eventual graduation.
- Types of Academic Milestones:
- Foundational Course Completion: Successful completion of introductory courses required for a degree program.
- Major Declaration: The formal selection of a major or concentration by a student, typically by the end of their sophomore year.
- Midpoint Review: A review of the student’s progress at the halfway point of their degree program, including credit accumulation and GPA assessment.
- Capstone Enrollment: Enrollment in and successful completion of a capstone course or project, if applicable.
- Graduation Readiness Check: An audit performed by the College to ensure the student has met all academic requirements for graduation.
- Monitoring and Support:
- Academic advisors and faculty members are responsible for monitoring students’ progress toward meeting academic milestones. Regular reviews will be conducted to identify students who may be at risk of not achieving milestones.
- Students who do not meet specific milestones will be referred to academic support services, including tutoring, advising, and counseling, to ensure they receive the help needed to stay on track.
- Communication of Milestones:
- Students will be informed of their academic milestones through advising sessions, academic planning tools, and official communications from the College. Milestones will be clearly outlined in the academic catalog and relevant program materials.
- Students will also receive notifications regarding their progress at key points in their academic journey.
- Intervention and Remediation:
- For students who do not achieve critical academic milestones, intervention strategies will be implemented. These may include mandatory advising sessions, academic improvement plans, and access to academic resources such as tutoring and workshops.
- Continued failure to meet milestones may result in additional actions, including changes to the student’s academic plan or recommendations for alternative academic pathways.
C.POLICY HISTORY:
This policy was established to promote academic success, ensure timely progress toward degree completion, and provide structured support for students throughout their academic journey.
