3357:12-14-14-Policy on Valuing Our Veterans Support and Assistance


A.POLICY

This policy outlines the support and assistance provided to service members and veterans at Zane State College. In compliance with Ohio Revised Code Section 3345.421 (B) and House Bill 488, the College is committed to ensuring that service members and veterans receive priority registration, credit for military experience, and access to dedicated support services.

 

B.POLICY GUIDELINES

  1. Veterans and Service Members Contact Person
    • Zane State College will designate at least one College employee to serve as the primary contact for veterans and service members.
    • The designated contact will provide guidance on veterans’ resources, support services, and assistance with College procedures.
  2. Student-Led Veterans Group
    • Zane State College will allow for the establishment of a student-led group on campus for veterans and service members.
    • The group will provide a platform for student veterans to engage in peer support, networking, and advocacy.
  3. Integration of Career Services
    • The College will integrate and enhance career services for veterans and service members.
    • Services will include:
      • Career counseling.
      • Job placement assistance.
      • Resume review and interview preparation.
  4. Veteran and Service Member Needs Assessment
    • Zane State College will conduct periodic surveys of student veterans and service members to identify their unique needs and challenges.
    • The results of these surveys will be used to improve and tailor support services for student veterans and service members.
  5. Appeals Procedure for Military Credit
    • The College will establish an appeals procedure for veterans and service members who wish to dispute decisions regarding the awarding of college credit for military experience.
    • Students who wish to file an appeal must submit a written request to the Registrar’s Office.
    • Appeals will be reviewed by the appropriate faculty, program director, and academic dean.
  6. Priority Course Registration

 

  • Zane State College will provide veterans and service members with priority access to course registration.
  • Priority registration allows veterans and service members to register for classes before the general student population, ensuring greater access to preferred course times and formats.
  • Fee Waivers for Military Credit Evaluation
    • Veterans and service members will not be charged any fees for the following services related to military experience credit:
      • Evaluation of military experience.
      • Transcription of military credits.
      • Application for military credit.
  • Commitment to Veterans and Service Members
    • This policy and associated procedures and practices reaffirm Zane State College’s commitment to honoring and supporting the men and women of the armed forces.
    • The College will continue to adopt further policies and procedures to align College practices with HB 488 and the institutional commitment to excellence in service to veterans and service members.
