A.POLICY
This policy establishes the criteria under which Zane State College may waive general education requirements for students who have earned an associate degree or higher from a regionally accredited institution. It also outlines conditions under which students may still be required to complete additional general education courses.
B.POLICY GUIDELINES
Eligibility for General Education WaiverA student who submits an official transcript demonstrating the completion of an associate degree or higher from a regionally accredited institution will be considered to have fulfilled Zane State College’s general education requirements for an:
Associate of Applied Business (A.A.B.)
Associate of Applied Science (A.A.S.)
Conditions for Additional General Education RequirementsWhile the general education requirements for Zane State College may be met through a previous degree, students may still be required to complete additional general education courses if any of the following conditions apply:Program-Specific Curriculum Requirements:
If the student’s transfer credit does not meet specific curriculum requirements of the intended Zane State College degree or certificate program, additional general education courses may be required.
Accreditation Standards:
If required by accreditation standards specific to the degree or certificate program, students must complete the necessary general education courses as part of the curriculum.
Documentation and Transcript Submission
To qualify for the general education waiver, students must submit an official transcript from the previous institution to the Registrar’s Office.
Transcripts must demonstrate the completion of an associate degree or higher from a regionally accredited institution.
Registrar Review and Decision
The Registrar’s Office will review the submitted transcript to verify the completion of an associate degree or higher.
The Registrar will determine if the student qualifies for a general education waiver based on program-specific requirements and transfer course equivalency.
Appeal Process
Students who believe their prior coursework satisfies the general education requirements, but who are denied the waiver, may submit an appeal to the Registrar’s Office.
The appeal must include a copy of the official transcript and any relevant course descriptions or syllabi that support the student’s case for a waiver.
