3357:12-13-17-Policy on Transfer Credit Into the College

A.POLICY

This policy establishes the guidelines for accepting transfer credit into Zane State College. It outlines the process for evaluating and awarding transfer credits from Ohio public colleges and universities, as well as from independent or proprietary colleges.

B.POLICY GUIDELINES

Transfer from an Ohio Public College or University

  • Zane State College follows the Ohio Transfer 36 framework established by the Ohio Department of Higher Education (ODHE).
  • The framework is designed to facilitate the seamless transfer of credits between Ohio’s public colleges and universities, avoiding duplication of course requirements.
  • Students transferring credits from other Ohio public institutions should ensure their courses are part of the Ohio Transfer 36 or other Ohio Articulation and Transfer Network (ATN) pathways.

Transfer from an Independent or Proprietary College or University

  • Unlike Ohio public colleges, independent and proprietary colleges are not required to participate in the Ohio Transfer 36 framework.
  • Students transferring from an independent or proprietary college must schedule an appointment with the Registrar’s Office and/or the Program Director of their desired program.
  • Students must provide the following documentation for credit evaluation:
    • Official transcript from the independent or proprietary institution.
    • Course syllabus or detailed course descriptions that outline the learning outcomes and course content.
  • Transfer credit will be awarded after a thorough review of the provided materials.
  • Credit may or may not be awarded based on the comparison of course content and outcomes to Zane State College courses.

Responsibilities of the Student

  • Students must ensure that an official transcript is sent directly to the Registrar’s Office from the prior institution.
  • Students transferring from an independent college must be prepared to provide syllabi and course descriptions for review.
  • Students planning to transfer to another institution from Zane State College are encouraged to contact the Registrar’s Office at the receiving institution to verify the transferability of their Zane State College credits.

Credit Evaluation and Transfer Decision

  • The Registrar’s Office will review all documentation and consult with faculty or program directors as needed.
  • Decisions regarding the awarding of transfer credit will be made on a case-by-case basis.
  • Students will be notified of the transfer credit decision via their My ZSC account or email.
