A.POLICY
College equipment/asset(s) that are no longer useful are considered surplus once it has surpassed its useful life. This occurs when equipment is broken, repair costs exceed fifty percent of the value of the item, or the equipment is obsolete.
B.POLICY GUIDELINES
The department head must declare the item as surplus with the approval of the Administrator in charge of the area and notify the Facilities Office.
The Facilities Office will work with the department head to dispose of all surplus equipment/assets in the following manner and order:
If the equipment/asset(s) is still useful, it will be offered to other College departments.
The equipment/asset(s) may be made available to the public through auction or online bidding programs, (i.e. das.ohio.gov, Ebay, GovDeals) with bids by employees given first chance.
If the equipment/asset(s) does not sell, it can be offered to school districts and non- profit agencies in the community.
Equipment that has no use or value will be properly disposed of or sold for salvage value.
If the equipment/asset(s) were grant funded, the grant requirements for disposition must be followed.
Complete Equipment Transfer/Disposal Form and submit to business office for processing.
The Business Office shall have the final authority over the disposal of all surplus equipment/assets. All appropriate laws or regulations of the State of Ohio and the United States and its agencies shall be followed.
