A. POLICY
The Zane State College Outstanding Faculty in Teaching Award is open to all full-time and adjunct faculty members who have completed a minimum of two semesters of service at Zane State College and have not received this award in the last three years.
B. POLICY GUIDELINES
Students, full-time or adjunct faculty, staff, graduates, and administrators may nominate a faculty member for this award. An individual may nominate only one faculty member per year and self-nominations will be accepted. In the event that there are no nominations, the Chief Academic Officer (CAO) will select a deserving recipient in conjunction with all division deans. The award shall be based on the faculty member’s ability to demonstrate the Seven Principles for Good Practice in Undergraduate Education (Chickering and Gamson). The following criteria have been identified as important measures of effective teaching at Zane State College:
- Encourages contact between students and faculty
- Develops reciprocity and cooperation among students
- Promotes active learning
- Gives prompt feedback
- Emphasizes time on task
- Communicates high expectations
- Respects diverse talents and ways of learning
- One full-time and one adjunct faculty member will receive the award annually.
The Zane State College Outstanding Faculty in Service Award will recognize outstanding contributions to community, profession, and/or the college by a full-time faculty member. This may be exemplified by exceptional outreach that expands learning experiences for students or develops community partnerships, leadership in associated professional organizations, or contributing participation in college governance. The nominator may be a faculty member, staff member or administrator. Self-nominations will be accepted. A request for verification of service may be made to nominees. In the event that there are no nominations, the Chief Academic Officer (CAO) will select a deserving recipient in conjunction with all division deans.
The Award Review Committee shall consist of all division deans, a member from the Adjunct Advisory Board, a representative from the Zane State College Board of Trustees and a previous award winner in the same category (both full-time and adjunct). An established rubric will be used to evaluate nominees in an effort to maintain objectivity. Ultimately recipients will be approved by the Chief Academic Officer. All nominees will be recognized via a letter from the Office of the CAO. Recipients will received established awards.
