3357:12-12-13-Faculty Governance Positions and Descriptions


Faculty Senator

  1. Serves in accordance with the ZSC Faculty Constitution.
  2. Regularly attends Faculty Senate meetings or communicates a needed absence to Faculty Senate Chairperson (FSC) in advance and provides FSC with appropriate division information, needs and/or concerns.
  3. Establishes a formal or informal mechanism to poll division constituents.
  4. Keeps constituents informed of Senate proceedings as needed or requested. (Note: FSC will post Senate minutes on Blackboard under ZSC Faculty Group and share necessary information at thenext scheduled full faculty meeting).
  5. Keeps constituents informed of Senate proceedings as needed or requested.
  6. In question of voting, each senator should act in the best interest of his or her constituents.
  7. Actively engages in the operation of the Faculty Senate.
  8. Performs duties and carries out responsibilities as delegated by the FSC.


Faculty Senate Chairperson

 

  1. Serves in accordance with the ZSC Faculty Constitution and communicates faculty perspectives and concerns to administration. Acts as an advocate on behalf of the faculty and a liaisonbetween faculty and administration.
  2. Holds a minimum rank of assistant professor and has served as a division senator.
  3. Works with the provost to complete Common Meeting Schedule times for Faculty Senate and full faculty meetings.
  4. Determines agenda for Faculty Senate meetings and sends to senators prior to the meeting.
  5. Determines agenda for full faculty meetings in conjunction with the faculty senators and sends to all faculty prior to the day of the meeting in sufficient time to review any needed materials.
  6. Schedules meeting rooms for Faculty Senate and Full Faculty Meetings.
  7. Presides at both Faculty Senate and full faculty meetings.
  8. Assigns minute taker for full faculty meetings.
  9. Reviews and gains approval of Faculty Senate and full faculty meeting minutes and posts onBlackboard under ZSC Faculty Group.
  10. Attends all regularly scheduled meetings as follows or sends a designee. Meetings include:
    1. President’s Cabinet
    2. Board of Trustees Agenda Prep
    3. Board of Trustees Meeting Debriefing
    4. Board of Trustees
    5. Professional Development Committee
    6. Academic Council
    7. Others as needed or required
  11. Develops and provides ZSC Board agenda packet materials to the president’s executive assistant for inclusion under the Faculty Senate Recognition tab.
  12. Arranges presenters to represent faculty for ZSC Board of Trustees meeting as required.
  13. Functions as the official representative of the faculty to the ZSC Board of Trustees.
  14. Serves as the key-note speaker at Honors Night or arranges a designee.
  15. Participates in Commencement.
  16. Reviews policy and procedure related to faculty matters as needed; follows through with the process from review to appropriate approval.
  17. Appoints ad hoc committees of the Faculty Senate as needed.
  18. Informs Nominating Committee of the need for nomination and election of division senators.
  19. Selects faculty marshals for ZSC Commencement per established procedure.
  20. Approves or disapproves emeriti nominees in conjunction with Faculty Senators.
  21. Develops and manages the Faculty Senate budget.
  22. May delegate any of the above duties to the vice-chairperson or a senator, always maintaining ultimate responsibility.
  23. Participate in additional meetings or committees as needed or requested to represent the ,faculty.


Note that the Chairperson is subject to Senate review and removal should they not carry out their responsibilities to the satisfaction of the faculty.


Faculty Senate Vice-Chairperson

 

  1. Serves in accordance with the Faculty Constitution.
  2. Assumes the duties of the chairperson in the event of situations outlined in the Faculty Constitution (e.g. chairperson vacates their position or leaves a faculty position).
  3. Coordinates nominations for Faculty Excellence Award and announces recipient(s) at the ZSC Honors Night ceremony.
  4. Coordinates nominations for Faculty Senate chairperson.


As the vice-chair position is elected from the body of Senators, the senator position description will also apply.


Faculty Senate, Past Chairperson

 

  1. Serves in accordance with the ZSC Faculty Constitution.
  2. Orients the recently elected ZSC Faculty Senate chairperson to position responsibilities.
  3. Provides advice and support to the faculty senate chairperson as requested.
  4. Attend meetings of the Faculty Senate.
  5. The past chairperson will have no voting rights within the Faculty Senate unless they are a current senator.
  6. The advisor will be the immediate past chair unless that person is no longer employed with the college. In which case, a prior ZSC Faculty Senate chairperson will be asked to serve the role.
