CHEM 1215 - General Chemistry I Laboratory Credits: 1 Lab: 3
This course introduces students to fundamental laboratory techniques and experimental practices in general chemistry. Students will perform hands-on experiments to enhance their understanding of chemical principles, data analysis, and scientific reasoning. Laboratory topics include graphical analysis of experimental data using Excel; determination of densities; chemical nomenclature; properties and analysis of hydrates; types and stoichiometry of chemical reactions; calorimetry and thermochemistry; spectroscopy and atomic emission spectra; molecular geometry and bonding theories; and determination of molecular weights using the gas laws. Emphasis is placed on accurate data collection, laboratory safety, proper use of equipment, and effective scientific communication through structured lab reports. This course integrates practical skills with theoretical concepts, providing a strong foundation for further study in chemistry and related scientific fields
