EEET 4350 - Substation Communications

This course will cover the communications systems utilized by electric utilities to provide realtime data for the purpose of maintaining system reliability. The student will learn how to apply pilotrelaying schemes over fiber, over pilot wires, and power line carrier, etc. The student will learn how to apply Mesh, Cellular, WiFi, and LAN technologies as they currently are utilized in smartgrid communication applications and explain how RTUs and SCADA are used to gather data automatically to allow dispatchers to respond accordingly to system conditions.
