Return to {$returnto_text} Return to: Majors and Certificates

Mechanical Engineering Technology - Engineering Foundations concentration that introduces core engineering and manufacturing principles while preparing students for further study in mechanical and related engineering technology fields.

Computer-aided design skills are developed for use in applications such as machine design, tool and die design, and computer-aided machining. Courses in industrial processes including machining, plastics, metrology, metal fabrication, and project management prepare graduates with valuable skills for a wide variety of positions within the manufacturing sector.

Graduates develop skills in 3-D modeling and drafting, CAM programming, Microsoft Office applications, fluid and mechanical systems, and analytical design techniques. Technical courses incorporate software as an integral engineering tool and emphasize hands-on laboratory activities aligned with the types of functions performed by graduates in industrial environments.

Whenever possible, partnerships with local industry allow students to gain exposure to the equipment, processes, and technical skills used daily in manufacturing. Graduates find career opportunities with a wide variety of regional employers, with opportunities expanding across Ohio-one of the top three manufacturing states in the United States. Career pathways include roles such as engineering designer, manufacturing technician, technical sales representative, CNC programmer, and related technical positions.

With multiple courses aligned to Ohio Transfer Assurance Guides (TAGs), graduates also benefit from strong in-state transfer opportunities to several bachelor’s degree programs in Mechanical Engineering Technology and related fields.
