ENGL 2700 - World Literature: Global Culture and Perspectives Credits: 3 Lecture: 3 Lab: 0
This course will introduce students to a selection of classical and modern literary works from throughout the world Regions studied may include Asia, Africa, North and South America, Europe, and Oceania The works studied will include poems, short stories, novels, and/or nonfiction essays Students will analyze and discuss the works in their respective cultural and textual contexts Issues of class, race, gender, generation, religion and others will be discussed Lectures and secondary sources will provide historical and literary background to support students’ critical engagement with the assigned works of literature Students will write literary analysis papers designed to deepen their understanding of the material No prior knowledge of or familiarity with the pertinent languages is required All reading materials will be provided in English
Prerequisite: Grade of “C” or better in ENGL 1500
